The opening "toot" opened the tournament's official "lines wet" for the first day, although instead of trolling in the harbor, the boats revved their engines and rocketed out of the harbor. Traffic into and out of the harbor was put on hold by the Harbor Master and the boats rapidly settled into several groups defined merely as "fastest", "faster", and "not so fast". In under 10 minutes the fastest boats were out of the harbor and on their way to game fishing fame and glory, soon followed by their slower, more cautious competitors.

169 Lbs. Yellowfin Tuna, Keegan on the Keejana

Biggest in its species category for 2008, this fish caught by angler, Keegan Dwyer on his father's boat the Keejana. Fish weighed in at 169 lbs. Caught only days before the end of the year, it beat out the next nearest contender for biggest yellowfin tuna and Keegan was recognized for this catch at the Pago Pago Game Fishing Association Awards Banquet held at Sadies' Inn.

Captains' Curtain Call

Captains' Curtain Call

A successful end to the fishing portion of the competition, the boat captains agreed to one last group photograph, or two, or three. All of the captains were good sports, as usual, and the participation of our cousins from the Independent State of Samoa added that much more to our competition.

Congratulations to all the boat captains for a job well done, and we look forward to seeing them all at the next competition.
