Captains' Curtain Call

Captains' Curtain Call

A successful end to the fishing portion of the competition, the boat captains agreed to one last group photograph, or two, or three. All of the captains were good sports, as usual, and the participation of our cousins from the Independent State of Samoa added that much more to our competition.

Congratulations to all the boat captains for a job well done, and we look forward to seeing them all at the next competition.

The Marlin

The Marlin

In English, the Samoan phrase, "I'a Lapo'a" translates to "Big Fish" and this Marlin was the big fish of the tournament, weighing in at just a tad over 292 lbs.

Sailfish

Sailfish

This beautiful sailfish was caught by the angler in the photograph on the second day (Open Day) of the competition. a beautiful specimen, the colors were vivid, and the crowd spent quite a bit of the time before and after the weigh-in ogling the fish. Some even had a hungry, speculative gleam in their eyes... Perhaps they were dreaming up various recipes. Sailfish in coconut cream, sailfish bar-b-q, sailfish sandwich, cajun sailfish, deep fried sailfish, etc.

Resist The Lure... Of The Lures

Mark, of McConnell Dowell, shows the crowd the lures used to bring in the fish he just weighed in.
