Fish Report - February 2012

Big yellowfin anticipated

The excitement level in American Samoa has been sky-high since the landing of a ‘grander’ marlin by Chris Donato on Southern Destiny in nearby Samoa.

Well done, Chris, we knew they were there, and now you have proved it. I know a few locals who claim to have hooked such fish in the past, but they always managed to get away. Well, that’s what I am always told by my fellow fishers – but a few Steinlagers are usually involved in the telling!

The 2011 12th Steinlager I'a Lapo'a Game Fishing Tournament ended with a close finish between Team Girlfriend of New Zealand and Team Bonavista of American Samoa, with 1,567.6 and 1,457.6 points respectively.

The total catch of the tournament was 2,909 lbs. of fish landed and weighed at the weigh pole, and quite a few catch and released resulting in a total of 7,915.2 pts scored among all the boats fishing in this year's tournament.

The 12th Steinlager I'a Lapo'a Game Fishing Tournament Committee is pleased to present for download copies of the final boat summaries. The summaries include the totals per species for each boat, the anglers' points, and the tag and release details.

To the anglers and the sponsors we humbly thank you all for your participation and we hope to see you all again next year. Good luck and good fishing!
