  • I’a Lapo’a Fishing Tournament Report 2010

    This year the I’a Lapo’a Fishing Tournament was a huge success for everyone involved. Despite the weather conflicts for the first 2 days the tournament went ahead on Friday 21st May with fishing concluding on Sunday 23nd May at 2pm.

    We had a total of 22 boats register with over 100 contestants participating in the tournament itself. There were 60+ visitors from New Zealand, Australia and Samoa. Some came over on their boats while others flew in/out. We had 6 people who changed their flight details home so they could stay and complete the tournament when it was extended to the Sunday.

    Christine Elmiger Lands 406.4 Lbs. Black Marlin, Wins Invitation to Cabo 2011!!!!

    Christine Elmiger, member of team and boat Brave Hart, landed this beautiful Black Marlin. Weighing in at 406.4 Lbs., this is the current "Big Fish" of the tournament.

    The marlin also earned the Brave Hart team an invitation to next year's Cabo World Wide Championship Invitational, a much coveted invitation to one of the premiere international game fishing tournaments in the world. With the most points earned by boat and team, Brave Hart smashed ahead of their competition with the Marlin putting them in first place at the end of the second day of fishing.

    In an exciting move the Pago Pago Game Fishing Association has joined the ranks of Qualifying Tournaments for the I.G.F.A. Offshore World Championship in Cabo.

    Competing in this year's 11th Steinlager I'a Lapo'a Game Fishing Tournament in Pago Pago, American Samoa can win you an invitation to the I.G.F.A. Offshore World Championship in Cabo.

    PPGFA members -

    There will be an "End of the Year Extravaganza" Tournament this weekend, Saturday AND Sunday, December 26 & 27. This will be a combination of all the single species tournaments plus a Grand Slam tournament. All fish are also eligible towards the Rolling Board.

    Lines wet Saturday at 5:00 am. 1st weigh-in on Saturday at 5:00 pm at the Yacht Club. This weigh in is not required - you may choose to keep fishing (all night) or not to bring your fish in on Saturday.

  • Tsunami In American Samoa

    Our territory has been struck by one of Nature's most powerful disasters, a tsunami. Although most parts of the island escaped without too much damage two areas were hit hard. On the Southwest side of the island the villages Leone to Poloa were all struck by the massive wave(s), as well as the villages of Fagatogo through Satala and still other villages. The number of casualties is still being tallied as more bodies of people who were trapped and caught up by the waters are found. Many more who are currently listed as missing are still being sought.

    The Pago Pago Game Fishing Association has begun the planning for the 2010 Steinlager I'a Lapo'a Tournament. The 11th tournament of that name, this all-species extravaganza will follow close on the heels of the Samoa International Game Fishing Association's "Annual Game Fishing Tournament". 

    The tournament has been scheduled for May 18 through May 22, 2010, and it has been lengthened by a half-day of extra fishing, and the addition of a day in which to relax and prepare for the closing ceremonies.
